The role

The Building Mechanic position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of City-owned properties within NYCEDC’s Asset Management portfolio, specifically the Bush Terminal/MADE Campus in Brooklyn, NY, and other properties as assigned.

What you'll do

  • Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and emergency services as directed
  • Conduct daily inspections of assigned properties and inform supervisor of any maintenance issues or repairs needed
  • Provide technical guidance to maintenance personnel when directed
  • Monitor and report work performed by outsourced contractors
  • Assist and escort outsourced contractors when required
  • Communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, and external partners

What it takes

  • High School diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification is a plus
  • 5+ years of experience required with working knowledge in maintenance, inspections, and repairs
  • Ability to use handheld and desktop computer devices to input work orders and record work
  • Must maintain a valid NYS Driver License with a clean driving record
  • Working knowledge of construction and handyman repair techniques
  • Experience working with hand tools, power tools, and materials, and equipment associated with construction related trades
