The role
The Volunteer and Partnerships Coordinator will work with the National Capital Region Invasive Plant Management Team to expand volunteer opportunities focused on invasive species prevention and removal. The role involves organizing volunteer events, recruiting new partners, and managing communications with NPS staff and citizen scientists. The individual will also participate in field operations and have the opportunity to pursue an independent project related to invasion ecology. This is a 52-week AmeriCorps service position designed to foster the next generation of invasive plant professionals.
What you'll do
- Organize, advertise, and lead at least three invasive plant removal events per month.
- Recruit new partners and volunteers through creative outreach and education.
- Draft and distribute monthly newsletters regarding Early Detection and Rapid Response plant species.
- Verify citizen science observations submitted via iNaturalist or other mobile apps.
- Participate in field operations, including surveying and safe pesticide application.

- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Experience identifying plants using botanical keys or relevant coursework.
- Ability to work in arduous weather on difficult terrain while carrying up to 45lbs.
