The role

The Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG) is seeking a Senior Programme Officer to support the UN80 Initiative and the implementation of General Assembly resolution 80/251. The incumbent will provide substantive analytical support, coordinate intergovernmental processes, and lead mandate implementation reviews within the Strategic Planning and Monitoring Unit. This role involves collaboration with diverse stakeholders to advance organizational coherence and data-informed decision-making. The position is temporarily available for three months with the possibility of extension.

What you'll do

  • Lead and coordinate activities for the implementation of General Assembly resolution 80/251.
  • Provide substantive analytical support and prepare briefing materials for senior leadership.
  • Coordinate across Secretariat entities to ensure coherent mandate implementation.
  • Monitor progress, risks, and interdependencies across assigned UN80 work packages.
  • Supervise and mentor staff and consultants to ensure high performance and accountability.

What it takes

  • Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in programme management or international relations.
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in public administration, policy, or related field.
  • Proven experience providing substantive support to senior officials in an intergovernmental setting.
  • Fluency in English (UN Level II proficiency).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex intergovernmental processes and mandate reviews.
