The role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a Regional Policy and Advocacy Advisor to support the 'PlayMatters' education initiative in Uganda. This role will lead advocacy strategies to improve learning outcomes and developmental support for children aged 3-12 in crisis-affected regions. The position involves designing policy frameworks, managing stakeholder relationships, and capacity building to influence global education systems. The advisor will work from the Kampala office and will be responsible for translating project research and outcomes into actionable policy change.

What you'll do

  • Design and implement a regional Learning through Play policy and advocacy strategy.
  • Conduct stakeholder analyses to engage donors, ministries, and humanitarian coordination groups.
  • Develop multi-media advocacy products and digital content for education platforms.
  • Lead advocacy capacity-building workshops for IRC staff and partner organizations.
  • Represent the PlayMatters project in interagency groups and global education forums.

What it takes

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Education or Psychology.
  • 5+ years of experience in policy or advocacy related to education or children's services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with experience working in fast-paced, multi-departmental environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently set priorities and solve complex problems.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills for professional reports and proposals.
