The role

The Vice President of Government Affairs and Advocacy at Planned Parenthood of Michigan is responsible for leading political strategy, government relations, advocacy, and civic engagement.

What you'll do

  • Sets and leads multi-year political and legislative strategy aligned with the organization’s mission.
  • Advises the President and CEO on political risk and opportunity.
  • Represents PPMI and PPAM in coalitions, negotiations, and public forums.
  • Oversees all 501(c)(4) functions including advocacy, electoral work, organizing, budgeting, and compliance.
  • Directs proactive and defensive strategy on abortion access, contraception, gender-affirming care, insurance and Medicaid coverage, and health equity.
  • Develops and implements a 501(c)(4) fundraising strategy.

What it takes

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, or relevant field
  • At least ten years of senior-level leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience with 501(c)(4) operations and campaign finance law
  • Experience leading and developing teams
  • Deep understanding of Michigan government and the Legislature
  • Proven success in legislative strategy, endorsements, electoral strategy, and political fundraising
