The role

The Program Manager, Kansas City WildLands position at Bridging The Gap involves leading outreach and collaboration across various sectors to preserve natural communities, driving program growth through volunteer teams and public education.

What you'll do

• Conserve, protect, and restore natural remnant communities on public land by engaging land managers, leading volunteers, leveraging partner support, and strategically utilizing contractors.
• Author, update, and track progress on site-specific restoration plans, conservation management plans, and program workplans.
• Lead, support, and mentor a team of program coordinators, associates, and seasonal staff to accomplish restoration goals.
• Plan and execute volunteer workdays on public land, overseeing logistics, volunteer education/training, and data collection.
• Collaborate regularly with land managers to update and implement short- and long-term management plans. Build positive relationships across a broad range of community stakeholders.
• Maintain and analyze a robust database—including GIS data, species surveys, volunteer restoration hours, and prescribed fire logs—to track biodiversity metrics and fulfill grant/agreement deliverables.

What it takes

• Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management, Conservation Education, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Minimum of 3 years of progressive responsibility in conservation, project management, environmental advocacy, public engagement, or direct experience working with public agencies and land management.
• Minimum of 3 years of management, administrative, and organizational experience, including demonstrated ability to motivate teams and execute objectives in a timely manner.
• Strong working knowledge of local natural community systems, native and invasive species, and natural resource management best practices.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including experience delivering public presentations, writing grants, and publishing content. Proven ability to educate and persuade decision-makers, volunteers, and funders.
• Strategic thinker with strong diplomacy, problem-solving skills, and high ethical integrity. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across diverse constituencies.
