The role

The Great Basin Institute is recruiting two Maintenance Technicians for the National Park Service at Haleakalā National Park in the Kīpahulu District. The role focuses on vegetation control, trail maintenance, and supporting the stabilization of archeological sites. This is a 40-week temporary, full-time position involving significant outdoor physical labor in a coastal, tropical climate.

What you'll do

  • Clear invasive vegetation from archeological sites, trails, and visitor areas.
  • Maintain native and Polynesian vegetation to protect park infrastructure.
  • Assist trail crews with Kūloa Point and Pīpīwai Trail maintenance.
  • Perform minor repairs and painting on park buildings.
  • Support Resource Management staff in stabilizing archeological sites.

What it takes

  • Experience performing maintenance work without more than normal supervision.
  • Ability to regularly carry at least 35 lbs without assistance.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Must meet Public Land Corps (PLC) qualifications.
  • Ability to pass a Department of Interior (DOI) background investigation.
