The role

The Human Rights Officer will provide extensive legal research and analysis on issues related to transitional justice and accountability, support leadership and advocacy by the High Commissioner on these matters, and advise field presences on draft legislation, policies, and practices.

What you'll do

  • Provides extensive legal research and analysis on issues related to transitional justice and accountability
  • Supports leadership and advocacy by the High Commissioner on these matters
  • Provides advice to field presences on draft legislation, policies, and practices on transitional justice and accountability
  • Strengthens advice and technical assistance to States through the development of tools and implementation of project activities regarding transitional justice and accountability
  • Reviews, monitors, and evaluates activities relating to the implementation of international human rights instruments

What it takes

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related field
  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area
  • Experience in the field of international human rights law is required
  • Experience in the development of policies, tools and guidelines related to human rights and transitional justice is required
  • Experience in legal drafting is desirable
