Harvest Section Manager

The role

Manages and coordinates Pre-Sales, Contract Administration, Roads, and support staff in implementing timber and minor forest product harvests on the Reservation. Oversees long-term harvest planning and short-term marketing strategies for forest products. Ensures compliance with the QIR’s Forest Management Plan and other Tribal & Federal regulations. Conducts timber market analysis and performs stumpage appraisals. Communicates management objectives to Tribal officials and individual Indian Trust landowners. Advises senior management and Business Committee on all levels of Harvest section needs and opportunities, reports on program’s success and needs on a regular basis. Manages program budget and pursues funding opportunities. Maintains strong business relationships with local industry, contractors, and other stakeholders. Provides input to all forest management activities as a member of the QDNR Interdisciplinary Team.

• Conducts timber market analysis; performs and validates stumpage appraisals
• Communicates management objectives to Tribal officials and individual Indian Trust landowners
• Advises senior management and Business Committee on all levels of Harvest section needs and opportunities, reports on program’s success and needs on a regular basis

What it takes

• Bachelor’s Degree (BS) with major study in forest management, forest engineering, or other related discipline; Plus, six (6) years of related professional experience, including at least two (2) years of management or supervisory experience
• A combination of relevant education and related work experience with the ability to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities in the job description, may be considered
• Previous experience with timber sale preparation and/or contract administration
• Knowledge of applicable Federal regulations
• Demonstrated experience in project management
• Ability to pass a federal background check, and drug screening; hold or have the ability to obtain a valid Washington State driver’s license and have and maintain the ability to be insured under QIN auto insurance
