The role
Assist in managing our Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) for spotted owls and our Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances (CCAA) for Fisher, monitor large Great gray owl population found in the district, oversee and conduct camera surveys, review timber harvest units, develop land and wildlife management strategies, and more.
What you'll do
- Assist in managing Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) for spotted owls and Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances (CCAA) for Fisher
- Monitor large Great gray owl population found in the district
- Conduct biological surveys and supervise contractors/seasonal crew
- Review timber harvest units as needed to ensure compliance with HCP/CCAA/California Forest Practices Act
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships by communicating and coordinating with state and federal regulators
- Assist in developing land and wildlife management strategies
What it takes
- Bachelor's degree in wildlife biology or related natural resource field, or at least 5 years directly related work experience
- Familiarity with spotted owls, goshawks, amphibians, and other wildlife species found in Sierra Nevada of California
- Proven ability to interpret maps and photographs
- Understanding of federal and state rules and laws regarding timber and wildlife
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent fieldwork in remote settings using various transportation methods such as snowmobiles and ATVs
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint)
