The role

YMCA DownsLink Group is seeking a qualified and experienced Counsellor specializing in wellbeing for children and young people from Black, mixed heritage, and Global Majority backgrounds. The role involves providing culturally responsive assessments, counseling, and group work to foster inclusive spaces. Candidates must have specific qualifications in counseling or psychotherapy and experience with diverse youth populations.

What you'll do

  • Provide culturally responsive assessments and counseling (face-to-face and online)
  • Conduct group work for children and young people aged 8-24
  • Triage referrals and collaborate across the CYP service
  • Build partnerships with Global Majority-led and community organizations
  • Share expertise on inclusive practice and co-production to colleagues
  • Support assessment and therapeutic interventions for youth from all backgrounds

What it takes

  • Graduate or Postgraduate Diploma in Counseling or Psychotherapy (minimum two years)
  • BACP accreditation or eligibility for accreditation
  • Experience working with children and young people aged 8-14, including low-intensity interventions
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge
  • Experience supporting youth from Global Majority backgrounds
  • Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively in both verbal and speech
