The role

Mentor Link is seeking dedicated Volunteer Mentors to provide one-to-one therapeutic support to vulnerable children and young people across the West Midlands and Gloucestershire. Mentors help students overcome social and emotional difficulties, including Emotionally Based School Avoidance, to improve their well-being and engagement with education. Volunteers commit to approximately one hour of support per week to help young people realize their full potential. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the next generation while receiving ongoing training and support.

What you'll do

  • Provide one-to-one mentoring support to children and young people
  • Assist students in overcoming social and emotional barriers to learning
  • Collaborate with schools, parents, and health professionals as needed
  • Commit to a minimum of six months of volunteer service
  • Maintain a non-judgmental and encouraging environment for mentees

  • Ability to relate well to children and young people
  • Punctual, reliable, and able to commit to at least 6 months
  • Excellent listening and communication skills
  • Must be empathetic, kind, and encouraging
  • Current driving licence and access to a vehicle is preferred
  • Must be willing to undergo enhanced DBS and reference checks
