The role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking an Urban Food Systems Consultant to support the Urban Food Systems team within the Subnational Climate Action Unit. The consultant will drive global delivery of SDG 12.3 by fostering collaboration between cities, member states, and food systems stakeholders. Key duties include managing advocacy strategies, supporting the Food Waste Breakthrough Roadmap, and facilitating fundraising efforts. This 12-month consultancy requires expertise in food systems or environmental science to help advance circularity in urban environments.

What you'll do

  • Operationalize the Food Waste Breakthrough Roadmap for Technical Exchange.
  • Coordinate the Food is Never Waste Coalition and facilitate stakeholder meetings.
  • Develop multi-stakeholder advocacy approaches for international awareness days.
  • Support fundraising efforts and the development of new GEF food waste projects.
  • Manage administrative reporting and update the stopfoodlosswaste.org portal.

What it takes

  • University degree (Bachelors) in food systems, environmental science, or related area.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in research or program coordination.
  • Knowledge of food waste, circularity, and urban food systems.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Prior experience working with UN agencies is desirable.
