The role
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a consultant to support GEF-9 project and concept development, supervise and task-manage projects across the Chemicals and Waste portfolio, and provide technical and operational support to the planetGOLD programme and Minamata Convention Enabling Activities.
What you'll do
- Develop GEF-9 projects and concepts with relevant experts, stakeholders and countries.
- Support task management, reporting and technical inputs for the GCGCU portfolio.
- Hold weekly calls with Task Managers and monthly calls with executing agencies, or fortnightly for projects at risk.
- Review and clear quarterly progress and financial reports, annual workplans, budget forecasts, procurement plans and communication plans.
- Facilitate Project Steering Committee meetings, PIR processes, legal agreement extensions and project closure.
- Support oversight of planetGOLD, develop PIF and PPG packages, and prepare Minamata Convention MIA and NAP projects as requested.
What it takes
- An advanced university degree in a field related to social or environmental sciences, including chemistry, chemical engineering, social science, environmental studies or environmental engineering, or equivalent experience.
- At least 2 years of working experience in project management, including international experience.
- Working knowledge of GEF project development and supervision.
- Experience in implementing mercury-related projects.
