The role
The Specialist in Epidemiology and Surveillance will provide technical guidance, manage personnel, and oversee the strengthening of epidemiological surveillance activities within the STRIDES activity.
What you'll do
- Provide overall technical direction on epidemiological surveillance in alignment with project outcomes.
- Lead the strategic orientation of the epidemiology and public health surveillance component, coordinating with other technical domains.
- Support the design and implementation of activities to establish or strengthen event-based, indicator-based, and community-based surveillance for priority pathogens and antimicrobial resistance.
- Develop training materials, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work guides, and provide on-the-job training to epidemiologists, surveillance agents, project staff, and partners.
- Contribute to the development of annual work plans, budgets, technical information notes, reports for donors, and presentations.
What it takes
- Master's degree in Epidemiology, Public Health or a related health field relevant to the functions of the position.
- At least six years of combined national and international experience in epidemiology and public health programs related to infectious disease control, sanitary analysis, and statistics.
- Practical experience and mastery of principles of International Sanitary Regulations (ISAR) and epidemic response at the national level.
- Experience working with government authorities, particularly the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture and/or Ministry of Environment, to support strategy development and decision-making.
- Strong knowledge and experience in monitoring and evaluation systems (M&E) and data quality assurance (DQA).
- Relevant training programs such as FETP Frontline, Intermediate or Advanced are desirable.
