The role

The Senior Technical Specialist – Zoonotic Diseases will lead the implementation of field-level interventions for the STRIDES Activity in the Philippines. This role focuses on operationalizing multisectoral approaches for the prevention, detection, and response to zoonotic and emerging infectious diseases. The specialist will coordinate closely with government agencies, laboratories, and local health units to strengthen surveillance, biosafety, and outbreak response mechanisms.

What you'll do

  • Operationalize multisectoral interventions for zoonotic disease prevention and response.
  • Support field-based surveillance at human-animal-wildlife interfaces.
  • Provide technical and operational support for zoonotic pathogen detection and laboratory systems.
  • Assist in outbreak investigations and provide technical input for Rapid Response Teams.
  • Deliver capacity-building activities, including mentoring and training for regional counterparts.

What it takes

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Veterinary Medicine, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in health project implementation.
  • Proven experience working with government and partners on zoonotic disease surveillance.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting laboratory-based surveillance for infectious diseases.
  • Proficiency in English and Filipino/Tagalog.
  • Experience with US Government-funded projects is an advantage.
