The role
The Southern Poverty Law Center is seeking a Senior Staff Attorney or Staff Attorney committed to dismantling white supremacy. The role involves litigating cases against hate groups and white supremacists, working with community organizations, and representing victims of hate and extremism.
What you'll do
- Draft briefs, motions, memos, and other documents in support of litigation
- Conduct depositions and represent clients in court
- Develop new cases and campaigns in consultation with SPLC staff and community partners
- Investigate, gather information, and interview clients and witnesses
- Respond to requests for legal assistance
- Research and write legal memos and briefs on complex legal and factual questions
What it takes
- At least one (1) year of federal court civil litigation or comparable experience post law school for Staff Attorney I-II
- At least six (6) years of federal court civil litigation or comparable experience post law school for Senior Staff I-IV
- Membership in good standing of at least one state bar in the United States, preferably Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, or Washington, D.C.
- J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school
