The role
The National Geographic Society is seeking a Senior Specialist, Science and Innovation Programs to support the development and management of research, conservation, and technology grants and programs, particularly in the Space focus area.
What you'll do
- Support the strategic development and adaptive management of the Space focus area’s portfolio
- Collaborate to seek, evaluate, fund, and manage grants and grantees within the Space focus area
- Support the development and implementation of larger programs, including leading on and delivering landscape analyses
- Provide programmatic support across Science and Innovation Programs
- Support leadership with budget creation and tracking
- Support internal operations, including contracts, legal, presentation preparation, invoices, mailings, travel and logistics, maintaining shared calendars and documentation
What it takes
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s degree in science, including planetary science, comparative planetology, space geology, Lunar science, astronomy, astrophysics, or other space science related disciplines
- 4+ years of relevant experience in research, science, conservation, sustainability or related fields
- Experience working on space-related science preferred
- Experience working on programs or partnerships at a non-profit in the environment or sustainability sector is also preferred
- Understanding of the scientific method and ability to understand and evaluate technical material
