The role

The Senior Public Information Officer is responsible for driving OHCHR's advocacy and communications strategy, providing strategic leadership, and managing a diverse team to ensure high-quality communication products and services.

  • Drive OHCHR's advocacy and communications strategy in line with High Commissioner priorities
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the section and lead the development and implementation of communications strategy
  • Oversee and assure the quality of all communication products and services
  • Build broad strategic partnerships to strengthen outreach and advocacy impact
  • Identify and integrate innovative tools, data, and trends into office communications
  • Ensure high-quality human rights campaigns and stories have global reach and measurable benefits

What it takes

  • Advanced university degree in communications
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible work experience in public information, strategic communications, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area
  • Minimum of five years of managerial experience
  • Experience in digital outreach and the use of social media
  • Experience working within the United Nations common system or similar international organization
  • Proven track record of excellent management, including results-based management and experience managing staff, budgets and planning
