The role

The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) is seeking a Senior Programme Management Officer to lead and evaluate counter-terrorism and violent extremism prevention programmes focused on Iraq. The incumbent will mobilize resources, manage stakeholder partnerships, and direct programme implementation while ensuring gender mainstreaming across all initiatives. This role requires extensive experience in project management and a deep understanding of regional dynamics to provide strategic guidance and substantive policy support.

What you'll do

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of key programmes supporting Iraq on counter-terrorism.
  • Mobilize resources and establish partnerships to support capacity-building programming.
  • Direct subordinates in programme development, monitoring, assessment, and reporting.
  • Coordinate policy development and provide substantive support for consultative meetings and conferences.
  • Ensure the implementation of gender mainstreaming guidelines across all programmes and policies.

What it takes

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics, or a related field.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in or relating to Iraq.
  • Fluency in English (UN Level II) and Arabic (UN Level I) is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify strategic issues and provide innovative technical leadership.
