The role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Senior Programme Management Officer to lead the identification of areas for greater efficiency and impact through coordination in the UN system, develop relevant documents and reports, and manage outreach activities.

What you'll do

  • Takes the lead to identify areas of work that could bring greater efficiency and impact through coordination in the UN system.
  • Develops relevant documents and reports, in consultation with UN sister agencies and internally within the UN.
  • Undertakes survey initiatives; contributes to the design of data collection instruments; reviews, analyzes, and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues, and prepares conclusions.
  • Reviews the assessments of issues from data and information prepared by UN sister agencies to enable an in-depth discussion on coordinating actions within the UN system.
  • Establishes collaboration and partnerships with key officials at all levels inside and outside the organization.
  • Supervises preparation of various written outputs, e.g., background papers, analysis, substantial sections of reports and studies.

What it takes

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in an environment or development related field is required.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in environment or development policy and programmes or related area is required.
  • Experience in the United Nations system or a comparable international organization is required.
  • Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
  • Experience in environmental governance is desirable.
  • English language proficiency at UN Level III (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking)
