The role
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is seeking a Senior Interpreter, Arabic to provide interpretation services for various United Nations bodies and support the Chief of Section in managing staff.
What you'll do
- Provide interpretation for up to eight meetings per week, usually of no more than three hours duration, of various United Nations bodies
- Assist in assessing the performance of staff and freelance interpreters
- Assist in screening, training, and examining prospective interpreters
- Serve as Team leader on missions and Officer in Charge if required
- Assume the role of Chief of Section when designated
What it takes
- A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status is required. A master’s degree is desirable.
- Passing the United Nations Competitive Examination for Arabic Interpreters is required.
- At least ten (10) years of professional interpreting experience in international organizations, with at least five (5) years working within the UN system or similar organization
- UN Language Framework Level IV in English, French, and Arabic
