The role
The Wilderness Society is seeking a Senior Forest Ecologist to coordinate and conduct forest ecology research that informs and advances the organization's work on protecting America's wild places.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with program staff to apply forest ecology and wildfire science to campaign strategy and implementation
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to co-develop research questions and share findings
- Produce scientific reports, white papers, and policy briefs
- Develop science and provide data to inform organizational policy positions
- Serve as an internal and external expert, communicating research and policy recommendations
- Support the development of funding proposals
What it takes
- Ph.D. in forestry, forest ecology, forest-fire ecology, or related field and at least 7 years of experience
- Strong quantitative skills and working knowledge of geospatial concepts
- Well-organized with strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Knowledge of conservation issues on U.S. public lands and federal public land policy
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and with diverse groups
