The role

The Research Assistant will assist in identifying and monitoring substantive aspects of the UN Security Council’s work, including procedural research, and preparing reports and summaries for the Security Council.

What you'll do

  • Assists in identifying and monitoring substantive aspects of the UN Security Council’s work.
  • Prepares background materials for monthly assessments, procedural research, and reports.
  • Designs, prepares, and maintains a comprehensive record of assigned files.
  • Prepares a variety of reports, presentations, tables, lists, charts, data sets, and diagrams.
  • Attends meetings to follow discussions, takes notes, and prepares summary reports.
  • Provides guidance and training to new/junior staff.

What it takes

  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in research support or other related area.
  • Experience providing research assistance services to an intergovernmental or similar organ is desirable.
  • Experience using documents and meetings management databases is desirable.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. English is required. French is desirable.
  • Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
