The position is located in the Crisis Response Division (CRD) of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Bunia, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The incumbent will support the Ebola response and report to a Senior Humanitarian Affairs Officer.
What you'll do
- Ensure implementation of information programs to publicize priority issues and/or major events
- Monitor and analyze current events, public opinion, and press, and advise management on appropriate action/responses
- Undertake activities to promote media coverage of priority issues and/or major events
- Produce or oversee production of specific types of information communications products
- Prepare initial drafts of articles or chapters for inclusion in UN newsletters, periodicals, reports, and books
- Initiate and sustain professional relationships with key constituencies
What it takes
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area
- Experience in managing and generating content for social media platforms
- Experience working in a UN or other comparable international organization communication environment
- Experience in engaging with the media and writing professionally on humanitarian crises and issues
- Experience in communications in aid operations in the field
