The role
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Programme Management Officer to lead the development and supervision of GEF projects related to artisanal and small-scale gold mining and mercury mining, among others, in the Industry and Economy Division, Chemicals and Health Branch, Global Environment Facility Chemicals and Green Chemistry Unit (GEF-C&GCU), at the Paris duty station.
What you'll do
- Lead the development and supervision of GEF projects with the theme of artisanal and small-scale gold mining and mercury mining, amongst others.
- Support the operation and direction of the UNEP High Impact Sector Team and mining and critical metals work areas.
- Contribute to technical guidance and advisory to the UNEP Mining projects and High Impact Sector Team.
- Support private sector engagement by including GEF private sector cofinance partners into UNEP private sector partnership and cooperation.
- Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods.
What it takes
- Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in earth sciences, environmental sciences, environmental management, chemistry, metallurgy, engineering, or economic and social studies.
- Relevant training in Project Management.
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience at the international level related to the minerals, mining and metals (3Ms) value chain.
- Experience in developing and/or implementing international environmental programmes in developing countries and managing development projects on sustainability or to reduce mining pollution.
- Experience with Global Environment Facility or equivalent international projects cycle.
- Experience working in, or with the private sector on implementing upstream innovation and solutions in reducing sustainable metals and mining value chains or pollution.
