The role

The Programme Management Officer will be responsible for performing the following duties: participating in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects; monitoring and analyzing programme/project development and implementation; preparing various written outputs such as draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, meeting summaries, speeches, etc.; providing substantive and organizational support to consultative and other meetings involving or of interest to the Regional Commissions; supporting the participation of the Regional Commissions in United Nations system-wide coordination mechanisms and inter-agency processes; undertaking and supporting communication and outreach activities to highlight the work of the Regional Commissions and promote regional perspectives in global policy discussions.

What it takes

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in public administration, management, economics or a related field is required
  • A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree
  • Experience in project or programme management, administration, or related area, including at the international level
  • Experience in the United Nations System, or any other comparable international or regional organization, is desirable
  • Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to sustainable development, economic and social issues, regional cooperation and the United Nations legislative process
