The role

The Programme Management Officer position is located in the Development Pillar of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in Kabul, focusing on leading or directing the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programmes, operations, policy development and implementation.

What you'll do

  • Researches, analyzes and presents mine action information and data gathered from diverse sources and advises on appropriate responses to address the explosive ordnance threat in Afghanistan.
  • Collaborates with the UNCT to advise on mitigation measures for the risks from explosive ordnance contamination, for all projects and programmes.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates the UNAMA mine action programme strategy, resource mobilization strategy, Work Plan and budget; provides inputs to the Humanitarian Needs Response Plan, leads the mine action work stream within the protection cluster, advises the HCT, and advocates for Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund resources.
  • Monitors, evaluates and analyses Mine Action programme/project development and implementation in alignment with strategic direction.

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, international relations or a related field
  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area is required.
  • Experience in programme management in mine action, security sector reform or stabilization in a conflict or post-conflict setting is required.
  • Experience in resource mobilization or fundraising is required.
  • Prior work experience in Afghanistan is desirable.
