The role

Legal Services NYC (LSNYC) is seeking pro bono scholars to join their housing practice and represent low-income tenants in eviction proceedings and other housing-related matters.

What you'll do

  • Provide full legal representation in housing court proceedings
  • Litigate cases in housing court, administrative forums, and appellate courts
  • Develop expertise in housing court practice, housing programs and subsidies, and public benefits
  • Conduct neighborhood-based legal clinics and know-your-rights workshops
  • Identify trends and recurring issues for potential impact litigation
  • Provide trainings to other advocates, tenant associations, community members, and community groups

What it takes

  • Participant in the New York State Pro Bono Scholar program
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and working in low-income communities and communities of color
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent advocacy, analytic, writing, and leadership skills
  • Strong time management and organization skills
  • Experience in housing, landlord/tenant, or related advocacy is preferred
