The Prescribed Fire and Stewardship Technician is a key position for the growth of our prescribed fire and land stewardship programs in Kentucky. The position is based in Lexington, KY, with a remote work option for highly qualified applicants.

What you'll do

  • Assist with the implementation of prescribed burns
  • Assist with the development of prescribed burn plans and fire management plans
  • Maintain fire and stewardship supplies and equipment
  • Maintain physical fitness necessary for maintaining wildland fire qualifications
  • Work in variable weather conditions and remote locations
  • Lead vegetation and fire effects monitoring programs

What it takes

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience in natural resource management or similar field
  • NWCG Squad Boss (FFT1) and Wildland Faller qualified
  • Experience with wildland fire management in the Appalachians
  • Experience with prescribed burns and burn plan development
  • Ability to maintain arduous fitness level
  • Experience with ArcGIS, Avenza Maps, GPS, and Microsoft Products
