The role
The Political Affairs Officer will support UNAMA leadership in responding to emerging priorities and vulnerabilities related to climate change, peace, and security in Afghanistan and the region.
What you'll do
- Provide up-to-date analysis to UNAMA leadership and relevant UN offices
- Promote coherence and integration among the Mission and relevant UN entities
- Lead on the mainstreaming of climate-related peace and security risks into policies, strategies, planning, and activities
- Enhance engagement and confidence-building measures with all relevant Afghan stakeholders
- Support the Resident Coordinator’s Office on aid coordination efforts related to climate, peace, and security
What it takes
- Advanced university degree in climate, environment, peace and conflict studies, or related fields is required
- A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in relevant areas is required
- Experience working in an international organization on political and climate issues in a conflict or post-conflict setting is required
- Proven policy, advisory, and advocacy experience with senior officials in the UN, government, and external partners is desirable
