The role
The Political Affairs Officer will gather, select, and analyze information, maintain up-to-date knowledge of political issues, and provide technical and substantive back-up in the implementation of mandates of the Office and unit.
What you'll do
- Gathers, selects and analyses information contained in communications and publications received from different sources, including the press.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of events relating to political issues, in general, and in particular as they affect the countries and thematic mandates for which the staff member is responsible.
- Monitors national and regional level political developments and provides advice to the Chief of the Unit.
- Provides technical and substantive back up in the implementation of mandates of the Office and unit.
- Maintains contacts with other sectors of the UN, other relevant international organizations and governments on coordination and policy matters.
- Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
What it takes
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration or other related area is required.
- A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Experience in political report drafting is required.
- Experience in project development, implementation and reporting is desirable.
- 2 years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
