The role

The Political Affairs Officer will provide substantive and technical support to the Light Coordination Mechanism within the Integrated Training Service of the Policy, Evaluation and Training Division in the Department of Peace Operations.

What you'll do

  • Gathers, selects and analyses information regarding training and capacity-building providers
  • Coordinates with UN entities and Member States to identify police training needs
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of events by monitoring relevant documents and reports
  • Provides technical and substantive support in the implementation of mandates
  • Keeps abreast of latest trends and developments in the area of assignment
  • Participates in fact-finding and other missions to countries within assigned area of responsibility

What it takes

  • Advanced university degree (Master's or Doctorate) in political science, international relations, law, public administration or related fields
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in relevant areas
  • Experience with coordination and facilitation of UN and Member State training activities
  • At least three years of experience in training, specializing in military or police peacekeeping standards is desirable
  • At least one year working in a United Nations peacekeeping mission is desirable
  • Fluency in English required; French is desirable
