The Xerces Society is seeking a Pesticide Specialist to support efforts that reduce reliance on pesticides and mitigate risks to native invertebrates, with a focus on protecting rangeland ecosystems.

What you'll do

  • Monitor state and federal programs that fund grasshopper and other suppression efforts
  • Build relationships with diverse partners to support sustainable grasshopper management
  • Provide technical support on pesticide-related issues
  • Assist in creating and disseminating outreach materials
  • Evaluate pest management plans for potential risks to invertebrates
  • Review pesticide data and provide recommendations

What it takes

  • Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with more than 2 years of experience in ecotoxicology, entomology, ecology, horticulture, pest management, or related field
  • Valid driver's license and clean motor vehicle record
  • Experience working with technical support providers, Tribal governments, or public land managers (preferred)
  • Understanding of environmental laws such as the National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, and Clean Water Act (preferred)
  • Resident in a Western state experiencing regular grasshopper suppression efforts (preferred)
