Pathogens Surveillance and Preparedness Analyst

The role

The Pathogens Surveillance and Preparedness Analyst will support the WHO in Tajikistan to strengthen surveillance, preparedness, and response to public health threats, including priority pathogens, vaccine-preventable diseases, and outbreak investigations.

What you'll do

• Support the collection, consolidation, cleaning, validation, analysis and visualization of epidemiological, laboratory, event-based, immunization and other relevant data on priority pathogens, vaccine-preventable diseases and emerging public health threats.
• Assess the completeness, timeliness, consistency and quality of surveillance information; identify reporting gaps and bottlenecks; and support practical corrective actions.
• Contribute technical inputs to the development, review and monitoring of disease-specific and all-hazards preparedness and response plans, operational protocols and health security workplans.
• Support outbreak investigations, event verification, field assessments and response monitoring, including data analysis, documentation and preparation of draft technical recommendations.
• Support the planning, implementation and documentation of simulation exercises, after-action reviews, intra-action reviews and other learning activities designed to strengthen readiness and response performance.

What it takes

• At least three years of progressively responsible professional experience in infectious disease surveillance, epidemiology, public health intelligence, health emergency preparedness and response, immunization or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience analysing epidemiological, laboratory or programme data and producing clear technical reports, dashboards, presentations or recommendations for decision-making.
• Experience developing or applying surveillance procedures, indicators, data-quality approaches, technical guidance, training materials or operational tools.
• Experience in outbreak investigation, rapid risk assessment, preparedness planning, simulation exercises or response monitoring is desirable.
• Experience in immunization programmes or vaccine-preventable disease surveillance is desirable; experience with a ministry of health, WHO, the United Nations or another international organization is an asset.
• Skills in epidemiological analysis, surveillance-system assessment, public health intelligence, data-quality review and interpretation of laboratory and programme information.
