The role

The National Peaceful Elections Officer will provide technical support for the upcoming Parliamentary elections in Papua New Guinea, focusing on conflict prevention, inclusion, and capacity building.

What you'll do

  • Provide technical support including monitoring of elections preparations and emerging situations for regular briefings to the United Nations and UNDP Senior Management
  • Support organization and delivery of trainings and capacity development initiatives with electoral stakeholders
  • Provide coordination support with Participating United Nations Organizations of the Support to Peaceful Elections joint project including organizing regular joint project team meetings
  • Provide coordination support with Development Partners, including through PNGEC-led Donor Coordination activities
  • Support partnership management with key electoral stakeholders
  • Support to the secretariat of the project Steering Committee and reference group

What it takes

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant and diversified professional experience in the area of democratic governance, elections, institutional strengthening, international development, human rights.
  • Previous experience in electoral assistance, including logistics and operations and/or electoral system reform.
  • Previous experience in fragile and conflict-affected settings is an advantage.
  • Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with a wide range of people within UNDP, Governments, donors, and UN agencies.
  • Strong drafting, report-writing skills and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a multicultural and complex environment.
