The role
The Great Basin Institute seeks a Museum Technician to assist with the implementation and usability of the Historic Photograph Collection, as well as other museum program projects.
What you'll do
- Handle, digitize, document, catalog, and prepare digital scans of historic photographs for upload to NPGallery
- Assist in overseeing volunteer work and providing training on proper handling techniques
- Create 508-compliant website content associated with the museum collection or projects
- Conduct housekeeping tasks as per the Museum Housekeeping Plan
- Participate in annual inventory of collections
- Make presentations to park staff, public gatherings, or professional meetings
What it takes
- Degree in museum studies or related field
- 6 months experience in museum collections and archives
- Experience cataloging a variety of museum objects using professional standards
- Experience operating a museum collections database (TMS/MCMS preferred)
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences
