The American Red Cross is seeking a Medical Director to deliver consultation, education, and oversight of transfusion medicine to ensure safe execution of programs and increase knowledge within and outside of the Red Cross. What you'll do
- Provide medical consultation in transfusion medicine, blood banking, and patient services to hospital customers.
- Direct patient service programs including therapeutic apheresis, stem cell collection, and processing.
- Direct the medical aspects of regulated blood center operations.
- Participate in the development of medical procedures, policies, or position statements.
- Serve as CLIA Laboratory Director for regulated collection activities.
- Investigate concerns and complaints related to donor complications, recipient transfusions, customer service, or hospital relationships.
What it takes
- M.D. or D.O. degree with post-graduate training/specialization in blood banking/transfusion medicine required.
- Board certified or eligible in internal medicine, pediatrics, or clinical pathology.
- Minimum 10 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in immunohematology.
- Management experience not required.
- Ability to work on a team and provide expert clinical consultation.
