The United Nations Environment Programme is seeking a Marine Migratory Species Consultant to support the Preparatory Phase of a Regional Programme on Migratory Marine Species in the ROPME Sea Area. The role involves developing a robust regional baseline and planning framework through comprehensive assessment, stakeholder consultation, and regional validation. The consultant will work closely with ROPME and national focal points to deliver high-quality technical reports and an action plan.

What you'll do

  • Review desk studies of existing global, regional, and analysis of marine turtles, dugongs, sharks, and rays.
  • Support national consultations with ROPME Member States to identify data gaps and capture national priorities.
  • Develop a draft regional desk-top baseline report covering ecological status, threats, and policy frameworks.
  • Revise and finalize the baseline report based on feedback from regional workshops.
  • Develop a draft Regional Roadmap and Action Plan outlining priority actions and timelines.

What it takes

  • Advanced degree in marine science, environmental management, or related field.
  • Minimum of seven years of proven professional experience in conducting regional assessments and stakeholder consultations.
  • Strong analytical and report-writing skills.
  • Experience with multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) and United Nations processes.
  • Experience working with marine turtles, dugongs, sharks, and rays.
  • Experience with the ROPME region is an asset.
