The role
The Language Specialist will provide interpretation and translation services for the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar, focusing on documents and communications in English and Burmese.
What you'll do
- Provide interpretation from one or more languages used in Myanmar to English, and vice versa
- Translate documents and communications from one or more languages used in Myanmar to English, and vice versa
- Transcribe audio/video materials from one or more languages used in Myanmar and translate to English
- Record and store the translated materials in the Mechanism’s evidence repository
What it takes
- First-level degree in languages, social sciences, law or related fields
- Minimum of three years of experience translating and/or interpreting from Burmese into English, and vice versa
- Experience in translating legal and/or criminal investigative documents is desirable
- Knowledge of one or more other languages used in Myanmar (such as Chin, Kayin, Kachin, Rakhine, Rohingya or Shan) is desirable
