The role

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is seeking an international consultant to specialize in supply chain security, strategy, and stakeholder engagement regarding minerals crime. The role involves implementing the Diagnostic Tool on minerals crime, strengthening partnerships with public and private stakeholders, and improving strategies to combat mineral-related crimes. The position is based home-based with travel required to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

What you'll do

  • Conduct in-depth background research on the geopolitical, social, economic, and legal context of target countries.
  • Support the planning, organization, and coordination of Diagnostic Tool implementation phases.
  • Adapt the existing Diagnostic Tool to regional and country-specific contexts.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and dialogue with institutions, civil society, and private sector representatives.
  • Provide substantive inputs to the UNODC Diagnostic Tool on minerals crime.
  • Represent the minerals portfolio in dialogues with partners and donors.

What it takes

  • Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, security studies, social studies, economics, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in research, analysis, analytics, program support, project implementation, or technical assistance.
  • At least 3 years of experience implementing programs including development of policy documents, guidelines, frameworks, or technical tools.
  • Previous field experience working with national institutions, public institutions, academia, civil society organizations, and/or private-sector stakeholders.
  • Track record of experience in the minerals sector, specifically regarding governance.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
