The role

The position is located in the Crisis Response Division (CRD), Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Bunia and Beni, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The Humanitarian Affairs Officer will serve as a senior policy officer, advise on overall policy direction, and monitor, analyze, and report on humanitarian developments.

What you'll do

  • Serves as a senior policy officer and advises on overall policy direction on specific issues
  • Monitors, analyzes and reports on humanitarian developments
  • Leads and/or participates in large, complex projects, including disaster assessment or other missions
  • Assists in the production of appeals for international assistance
  • Partners with other humanitarian agencies to plan and evaluate complex humanitarian and emergency assistance programmes
  • Establishes and maintains contacts with government officials, other UN agencies, non-governmental organizations, diplomatic missions, media, etc.

What it takes

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, social science, public administration, international studies, economics, engineering, earth sciences or a related field
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, rehabilitation, development, or other related area
  • Experience in humanitarian inter-agency work
  • Experience in humanitarian context within the UN common system or other comparable international organizations
  • Fluency in English and French
  • UN Language Framework Level III in both English and French
