The role

The Office of the Victims’ Rights Advocate (OVRA) is seeking a Human Rights Officer to support its mandate of ensuring the rights and dignity of victims of sexual exploitation and abuse by United Nations personnel. The incumbent will coordinate activities, conduct substantive human rights research, and liaise with various stakeholders to provide appropriate support for victims. This role involves drafting reports, developing policy documents, and providing recommendations to further the system-wide mandate of the Victims' Rights Advocate.

What you'll do

  • Coordinate activities and policy implementation related to the Victims' Rights Advocate mandate.
  • Conduct substantive research and analysis on human rights issues and policy development.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure victims receive appropriate care and follow-up.
  • Draft reports, briefings, and statements for policy-making bodies.
  • Support the development and implementation of victim-centred training programmes.

What it takes

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, or social sciences.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, or international relations.
  • Proven experience in drafting official reports and organizing stakeholder events or seminars.
  • Fluency in English (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking: UN Level II).
  • Desirable experience in legal assistance, criminal justice, or victim protection.
