The role

Human Rights Watch is seeking a France Director to develop and implement advocacy and media engagement strategies before the French government and key institutions, focusing on human rights issues both domestically and internationally.

What you'll do

  • Lead HRW’s advocacy in France and develop strategies on the full range of countries and issues addressed by HRW
  • Promote HRW's work in France to influence decision-makers, mainly key high-level officials at the Elysée, Foreign Ministry, Matignon, Parliament, and other government ministries and agencies
  • Act as a spokesperson in French media and support HRW’s strategy to promote its work effectively to traditional and social media in France
  • Coordinate closely with the Communications team and HRW advocates around the globe on EU- and ECA-related advocacy
  • Work with non-governmental organizations, civil society partners, and other key actors on collaborative advocacy efforts

What it takes

  • A graduate degree in international relations, journalism, law, social sciences or equivalent work experience is required
  • A minimum of ten years of policy advocacy work experience, including at least four years of management experience
  • Substantial knowledge of the French political landscape and government ministries and agencies
  • Significant human rights experience and expertise
  • Effective, concise public speaking skills in English and French
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
