The role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Financial Inclusion and Gender Specialist to support the Nature and market-based solutions Section in the LAC region. The role involves providing technical expertise on financial inclusion, gender equality, and environmental safeguards for various projects like UN-REDD and the Central America Dry Corridor Restoration Flagship Project. The consultant will work remotely from home while collaborating with regional teams to develop tools, reports, and capacity-building materials.

What you'll do

  • Lead work planning and implementation of financial inclusion and gender within 2026 UN-REDD Technical Assistance activities.
  • Strengthen the Central America Dry Corridor Flagship Restoration Project through strategic inputs on financial inclusion and gender equality.
  • Provide specialized technical inputs for the Paraguay REDD+ Project, ensuring alignment with gender and financial inclusion principles.
  • Contribute to knowledge management and capacity-building activities including workshop design and facilitation.
  • Ensure systematic application, monitoring, and reporting of gender-responsive actions across projects.
  • Develop and disseminate knowledge products, training materials, and advocacy tools.

What it takes

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental management, law, economics, administration, or social sciences.
  • Master's degree in environmental management, law, economics, administration, or social sciences.
  • Three years of experience with environment, natural resources, climate change, or development topics.
  • Experience in financial inclusion or designing/managing financial mechanisms.
  • Experience with environmental and social safeguards in the LAC region.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
