The role
Job Path is seeking a Direct Support Professional to provide one-on-one support to a young man in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, five days a week from 1pm to 6pm.
What you'll do
- Provide individualized supports to connect people to their communities and help them become contributing community members
- Work with family and community members to develop connections to community organizations
- Provide assistance at volunteer jobs, classes, social events, and other community activities
- Help individuals meet their personal and professional goals
- Support people in social situations to learn to feel comfortable and confident with others through appropriate interactions and build positive relationships
- Ensure clear, concise, and honest communication with supervisor and team members
What it takes
- High school diploma or GED, written and spoken English
- One year of prior experience working with people with disabilities
- Basic computer skills, such as ability to respond to e-mails, submit electronic timesheets, and complete casenotes through an electronic health record system
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Enjoy active, 'people-oriented' work and are sensitive to the needs and preferences of people with disabilities
