The role

The Ellison Institute of Technology is seeking a Data Engineer to join their Scientific Compute and Data team. The role involves building data infrastructure for autonomous systems, working with AI researchers, software engineers, and domain scientists.

What you'll do

Build high-throughput, low-latency ingestion for live video, sensor telemetry, robot joint state and instrument control signals
Work across the edge-to-cloud stack, from edge devices and MQTT brokers through to Kafka topics, cloud storage, and the APIs that serve scientists and ML pipelines
Turn streams of robot state, instrument output and video into structured database transactions
Build the knowledge graph on top of that, linking inputs to results
Make the output model-ready: the formats, sampling, labelling and provenance that training and evaluation need

Strong programming experience in Python
Experience with real-time data streaming
Experience with Kafka or Pub/Sub
Experience with automated lab or life sciences environments
Experience with data pipelines for physical systems
Experience with stateful stream processing
