The role
The Secure Community Network (SCN) is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead financial management, accounting operations, and compliance efforts. This role oversees all finance functions, including general ledger integrity, audit coordination, budgeting, and financial reporting. The Controller will work collaboratively to transform the organization's finance function while supervising the Accounting Manager. This position is based in Chicago with a hybrid work schedule of four days in-office and one day remote.
What you'll do
- Oversee finance functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes and ensure general ledger integrity.
- Coordinate with external auditors to ensure successful annual financial plan audits.
- Facilitate the annual budgeting process and monitor rolling forecast performance.
- Supervise the Accounting Manager and drive process improvements across the finance function.
What it takes
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in nonprofit financial management.
- Strong knowledge of fund accounting and nonprofit regulatory compliance.
- Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional (CNAP) or CPA designation preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and experience with financial reporting tools.
