The role

The Department of Peace Operations is seeking a Child Protection Officer to support the Policy and Best Practices Service in developing and evaluating policies regarding child protection in peacekeeping operations. The successful candidate will monitor political developments, analyze trends, and coordinate with international organizations to ensure the effective implementation of the UN's child protection mandate. This role involves drafting analytical reports, organizing training workshops, and providing substantive technical advice to field missions and senior officials.

  • Support the development and roll-out of DPO policies, guidelines, and training materials.
  • Monitor national and regional political developments affecting the child protection mandate.
  • Maintain productive working relations with UN agencies, international organizations, and Member States.
  • Prepare written outputs including background papers, analysis, and reports.

What it takes

  • Advanced university degree in political science, international relations, law, or related fields.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in political science, law, or conflict resolution.
  • At least three years of experience with the Security Council Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism (MRM).
  • At least two years of field experience with UN peacekeeping operations or international organizations.
  • Proficiency in English and French (UN Level II).
