The role
The incumbent will contribute to guidance and services in dealing with substantive matters concerning public information aimed at local audiences, assist in developing and implementing communications campaigns, monitor social media for developments and trends, and provide support to internal communications.
What you'll do
- News and social media monitoring: Produces and disseminates information especially to local media and organizations about the Mission, its aims and activities; Drafts daily news headlines and media reviews under supervision.
- Developing and implementing communications campaigns: Leads the compilation, quality control, and delivery of morning news headlines across the organization each day as per SOP.
- Monitoring social media for developments and trends: Monitors and analyzes current events, public opinion, and press; helps to prepare notes on appropriate action/responses.
- Drafting communication products and content in local languages: Drafts a diverse range of communication products including social media posts, statements, media advisories, etc., to support the political process and mission’s mandate.
- Covering mission events and activities: Produces photography and video content as needed; drafts human interest stories for local and international audiences.
- Providing support to managers on a range of public affairs issues: Keeps abreast of changing developments, trends, and political developments in the country.
What it takes
- Advanced university degree (Master’s) in communication, journalism, international relations, or related field
- A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, or related area
- Experience in events management and organization is desirable
- Relevant experience with United Nations Secretariat or UN Common System Organization (including Agencies, Funds, and Programmes) and/or similar international organizations is desirable
- Fluency in English and Arabic at UN Level III
